The New Zealand Rowing Foundation we were deeply saddened by the news of young rower, Hugo Shaw’s passing. We would like to thank the Ambler Family who have nominated the New Zealand Rowing Foundation to receive a $5,000 donation from the Hugo Charitable Trust.
Hugo Shaw tragically passed away on 19 January 2021. He was only 14 years of age. Hugo was a talented, kind and caring child. He excelled academically and at sport. He played cricket, basketball and rugby for St Peter’s School, but Hugo’s heart found its way to rowing. Hugo’s funeral service was held at the Don Rowland Centre on the banks of Lake Karapiro. His rowing teammates formed a guard of honour.
The nomination for the New Zealand Rowing Foundation, by Hugo’s family, to receive this donation is to honour Hugo’s passion and dedication to rowing. The Ambler family hope that the funds will be used by the New Zealand Rowing Foundation to assist other children with rowing, so they can share and enjoy Hugo’s love of the sport.
